What is the team/ culture like?
Since beginning as a Graduate Trainee with Engage, I have learned so much about the wonderful world of recruitment. The support I have received from the team has been consistent and concise, which has made the transition into ‘the big bad world’ a lot easier! I absolutely love the environment, we have fun and laugh whilst getting our heads down at busy times, sometimes, it doesn’t even feel like work when you enjoy what you are doing.
What have you been involved in?
I’ve been involved in the 360-recruitment process, which has meant I have pushed myself way out of my comfort zone A LOT. Although it is daunting, practice makes perfect, and I am practising every day and becoming increasingly confident in my knowledge. Recently, Anne-Marie and I went on my first client meeting, which I was initially nervous about but thoroughly enjoyed, preparation was key, much like many things in recruitment. At the end of the day, these client meetings aim to accurately understand the client's needs so that we can deliver the best service to them!
How did it feel to place your first candidate?
Placing my first candidate was a very exciting time, that feeling of finding a well-suited candidate is unmatched. I particularly enjoy helping others, being able to meet client expectations whilst matching a candidate up with a company they are enthusiastic about brings me great joy, the words “you’ve made my day” truly make mine. I don’t think that feeling of placing a candidate will ever become dull.
What industries have you enjoyed/ goals?
Currently, I have been involved in recruiting multiple roles within various sectors, from HR Manager to Technical Administrator. In the coming months, my goal is to better understand each of the sectors so I can decide which industry/ roles I would like to specialise in, but for now, I am really enjoying the variety. In the next year, I would like to continue to build relationships with clients and create and maintain my own client base.
Progression opportunities?
I was recently promoted to Recruitment Consultant after 4 months of being with the business, this is something I am proud of given how far I’ve come in that short time – recognition is often given, even for the smallest of achievements, at Engage which is important to me, reassurance is everything when you are still learning!
Would you recommend recruitment to graduates?
Getting into recruitment is something I would recommend to graduates who are interested in reaching targets and providing customer service, the variety in the role is refreshing, and the support you will receive with on-the-job training is excellent – it isn’t your typical sales job, you can make a difference to people’s lives. Engage has a great training scheme which is taught and very useful to refer to in different situations alongside the advice from the team; no question is too silly.
