Background & Career before joining Engage
I started my career in the Energy industry, becoming a mentor & team manager. Within this role there were elements of sales, recruitment & lead generation and I quickly became hooked to each of them. I found myself spending the next 5 years with 2 large national recruitment agencies, where I recruited transactional, part-qualified & senior Finance professionals, along with public practice experts across Scotland. I have worked with some incredible businesses, all shapes and sizes and really enjoy playing a part in their journey by introducing them to the best talent & people available to them on the market. I am incredibly grateful for the training, development & career enhancement this has given me and as a result, I absolutely love what I do.
How did you get into recruitment, what attracted you to the industry?
Like most of us in the industry, I sort of fell into recruitment, but I always had an appetite for it. I have a real passion for helping people, so having the opportunity to do that and playing a minor part in supporting their next move brings real job satisfaction. You get an interesting blend of sales, people engagement, learning about amazing businesses & having the ability to make a difference in people’s lives as well as contributing to business growth. I don’t know many jobs where you can get that variety and autonomy to directly influence things yourself.
What attracted you to Engage?
When I spoke with Anne-Marie, it quickly became clear to me that this was the place for me. As I have gained more experience in the industry, I always wanted to do things differently, with a more personal & tailored approach to my clients & candidates. Soon after speaking with Anne-Marie, I knew that Engage would give me the platform and autonomy to do just that.
What is it like working with Engage & what makes us different?
I love the team dynamic, the way we approach our day-to-day work, the working environment & culture that has been instilled and there are top level recruiters & people to work alongside. Nothing is too much or too little for anyone, we all genuinely want each other to do well and every single day you will hear motivating & insightful conversations. The flexibility & trust, enabling me to enjoy family life is incredibly refreshing & humbling. Engage is different because your desk quite literally is yours. You make it your own, do things your way and the way you like to work. We respect that everyone does things their own way sometimes & that there is not one set way or approach to your working day, but take snippets from each other to help us grow. We have a fantastic business here, and I am excited to play a part in our growth in the months & years ahead.
Pastimes – What do you do for fun?
My three amazing girls are my whole world. My beautiful partner, Elle. My daughter, Ayla & my stepdaughter Mya. Quite literally everything I do is for them. You will find us out and about on family days most of the time, plenty of Coffees of course. I don’t get much of a say, in fact they rule the house, but I wouldn’t have it any other way! I love spending time with my friends & family, eating out at nice restaurants & going away for some much-needed sunshine. I am a massive Hearts fan, will watch any football game to be honest!
Fun fact about you?
I once shared a beer with Rio Ferdinand while on holiday in Portugal.
